Train: choose the right station
Frankfurt Airport has separate regional and long-distance railway stations. For local travel, the regional station is beneath Terminal 1 on Level 0. The airport lists S8 and S9 among its regional connections. Long-distance IC and ICE services use the long-distance station.
For the city centre, search for your actual destination rather than assuming the main railway station is the best stop. Check the direction, changes, fare conditions and service notices in the journey planner before buying a ticket.
Check the official rail access guide
For Terminal 3, follow the airport’s SkyLine signs. See terminal transfer hours and allow extra time to get between the station and check-in.
Bus: check the terminal stop
Local and long-distance bus services serve the airport. Choose a service by its destination and exact terminal stop. Check the timetable for your travel date, especially for late arrivals or early departures.
Use the route and operator links on the official airport transport page. Include any walk or terminal transfer when comparing a bus journey with rail.
Taxi: plan a direct onward journey
A taxi may be useful with several bags, a group or a destination away from a station. Follow the airport signs to the taxi area and confirm your destination before the journey. Ask about the applicable fare and payment methods; this guide does not quote a fixed city-centre price.
Traffic affects the journey. If booking a vehicle, confirm the terminal, meeting point, luggage capacity and any child-seat requirement with the provider.
Car and rental car
Select the correct terminal before starting navigation. Road access and rental returns may use different entrances, so follow your rental company’s return instructions and the airport signs.
Check current road access information and our parking guide. A car park near another terminal may add a transfer to your journey.
Build a realistic arrival plan
- Search with your actual date and time; do not assume a daytime route runs overnight.
- Allow time to leave the aircraft, collect bags and reach the station or meeting point.
- Check ticket flexibility before booking a train close to a flight arrival.
- Keep a backup option for disruptions and check access needs with the operator.
No fixed journey time or fare is promised here. Timetables, traffic and ticket conditions vary.
